Welcome to the second newsletter of UP-RISE! We are thrilled to introduce the next generation of food safety leaders shaping Africa’s future: 11 exceptional PhD students driving innovative solutions in food safety and sustainable development. This edition also features an open call for traditional fermented food processors and processor groups! We’re selecting 10 participants—2 from each of our five target countries: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa—to collaborate on advancing food safety practices and innovation. Finally, we’re spotlighting our World Food Day campaign, emphasising the importance of healthy, sustainable, and nutritious food for all. Discover how the academic community contributes through cutting-edge data, technology, and innovations to enhance food safety and transform agri-food systems across Africa.
