World Food Safety Day 2024: Did You Know campaign
17 June 2024
Did you know that mycotoxins are harmful compounds produced by certain moulds that can develop on various agricultural commodities such as maize, sorghum, millet and peanuts, considered as the staple foods of many African countries? Did you know that mycotoxins can occur at various stages of the food production, from cultivation to consumption, including production, storage, and distribution stages? Did you know that food fermentation could help mycotoxin detoxification?
In the context of the World Food Safety Day 2024 on 7 June, UP-RISE conducted a month-long campaign to raise awareness about mycotoxins. The campaign focused on their impact on agricultural production, public health, and international trade, as well as strategies to mitigate their effects.
